OSC Lunch and Learn Series: Critical Components of a District Safety Assessment

Assessment Protocol

  • Visit and examine school buildings.
  • Interview relevant staff members.
  • Review training activities.
  • Examine communication capacity.
  • Review existing emergency plans.
  • Review previous emergency tests and safety drills.
  • Attend safety committee meeting.
  • Draft a detailed report with recommendations for improvements.
  • Appear before board or other governing body (upon request).

After the Assessment

  • Promote and Facilitate training (active shooter refreshment, stop the bleed, behavioral assessment)
  • Provide or assist with finding trainers at affordable rates.
  • Assist with networking – connections with schools that have already purchased certain security equipment.
