Life Insurance

The life insurance program began in 1991 to minimize the cost of rising insurance costs for school districts due to the aggregate of values. The Ohio Schools Council is proud of the fact we can offer basic life and AD&D insurance at a substantially lower rate that what a school would potentially pay on its own.

Service agreements with an insurance company are typically two to three years to limit the amount of change for schools, yet maximize competitive pricing. The Council, along with a professional insurance consultant, manages the RFP process to assure our districts are receiving the best possible coverage at the best possible price. Each member school district’s life insurance coverage is tailored to their own individual needs.

Metropolitan Life Insurance (MetLife) Company provides coverage for the program. The current rates are: $0.095 per $1,000 for basic term life insurance and $0.015 for accidental death and dismemberment. There is no Council fee to participate in this program. Rates are guaranteed until December 31, 2011.
